Important Updates to Pricing & Packaging for LocalStack for AWS

Important Updates to Pricing & Packaging for LocalStack for AWS

We wanted to share new details regarding changes to our pricing options that we hope will make LocalStack for AWS more accessible while also directly addressing feedback we’ve received from the community regarding our upcoming image consolidation.

For some background, we previously announced that we will end support for LocalStack for AWS Community edition beginning on March 23, 2026.

From that point on, we will only support one single image for LocalStack for AWS via Docker Hub, which will require a user account and an auth token to run. We will continue to support a permanent free tier of LocalStack for AWS for non-commercial usage, as well as offer special subscriptions for select user groups, including students verified with GitHub, OSS projects, non-profits, and more.

This means that those who rely on the Community edition of LocalStack for AWS today will need to create a user account for the plan that aligns with their usage once the change is implemented. Any pipelines that pull the latest version of LocalStack for AWS Community (localstack/localstack:latest on Docker Hub) will need to be updated to account for the required auth token. For more details on this change, please see this blog post.

To facilitate this transition, we are announcing forthcoming updates to our pricing and plans to support our community, including:

  • No more limitations on CI credits for any plan of LocalStack for AWS: Until now, our plans have included a set amount of CI credits, with the option to purchase additional credits if needed. Moving forward, we’re opening up CI for unrestricted use across all our plans, as long as it falls within our fair usage policy. If you’re already using our platform, keep an eye out for an update in the coming weeks, and all new plans moving forward will allow for CI usage, including our free, non-commercial plan.
  • Monthly subscriptions are back: Beginning March 23rd, we’ll introduce a new, low-cost monthly subscription for individual developers and small teams to purchase with a credit card. Similarly, a monthly subscription for the Ultimate plan for LocalStack for AWS will remain available via purchase through the AWS Marketplace.
  • Free tier for recreational usage: Individual engineers who rely on LocalStack for AWS Community edition will be able to create a free user account to ensure they pull the latest version of the product. Please note that our free tier will not permit usage for commercial purposes.
  • Extended free trial for LocalStack for AWS paid plans: New users interested in validating a paid plan for LocalStack for AWS will have 45 days until their free trial expires. This provides our users more time to experiment with the product and onboard their colleagues before beginning their paid subscription.
  • Free access for open-source projects: To support the open-source community that relies on LocalStack for AWS Community, we will provide free access to the full suite of our paid packages for community open-source projects. The application for this license will be available soon.

We’ve heard the feedback so far from the community that more flexible pricing and packaging, and the removal of CI limitations, would make it easier to continue taking advantage of LocalStack. These changes are intended to accomplish that. We’ll be sharing the full details of these forthcoming pricing updates shortly.
